Power outage retention

Question

Question

The power of the equipment using the PLC was turned off for about a month.
When I tried to restart the equipment, the internal counter elapsed value etc. disappeared.
Do I need a backup battery to keep the count value?

Answer

Answer

Current models(DL/SJ-Series)

The PLC ladder program and system parameters are stored in a storage element such as EEPROM, so no backup battery is required.
On the other hand, a backup battery is required for register data backup using the power failure retention function and for systems using the calendar function.
If a backup battery is installed, turn on bit 12 of the special register R7633 and set the “with battery” mode.
(D4-454 : R7745 bit12)
If no setting is made, the BATT error LED will not light. Similarly, the special relay with BATT error does not turn on.
Be sure to set the “with battery” mode so that the battery voltage can be detected.

Abolished models

See the user’s manual for each PLC.
Batteries may be required for the SU series / SG8 series / SA / SR series.

In the case of D0-05

The D0-05 series is intended for batteryless use, and a memory backup battery cannot be installed in the main unit.
If power failure maintenance is required, install the D0-01MC memory cartridge / real-time clock module.
This expansion module replaces all memory areas of D0-05 with battery-backed RAM memory and adds real-time clock functionality.
The memory backup period is 3 years.
When using D0-01MC, it is not necessary to set the “with battery” mode.
When the battery voltage drops, the BATT error LED on the D0-01MC lights up, so replace the battery (CR2354: commercially available) immediately.

*1 : Turn on bit 12 of R7633. After that, set the power outage retention area.
*2 : The power failure retention function is enabled from the factory (bit 12 of R7745 is on).
…..Set this if you want to change the power failure retention area.
*3 : Set power outage retention area.
